Project Summary

This feasibility study for the creation of three impactful bicycle routes across the region comes as part of Grand Narbonne’s greater ambitions to improve the quality of life for its residents. The primarily residential area, marked with zones of business activity and quality tourist sites, is ideal for commuting by bicycle as well as cycling for recreation and tourism.

Implementing the three cycling routes in the study is complex due to water ways, physical barriers (train tracks, road conditions, etc.), and major environmental and natural constraints. Despite this, these continuous itineraries offer the opportunity to create comfortable, safe, coherent, and direct cycling routes. You can add a fifth characteristic to this list: attractiveness. In an urban periphery area like this, creating interesting cycling routes is essential for encouraging users to traverse longer distances than in urban areas.

Copenhagenize paid extra attention to ensuring all stakeholders were heard and included while developing the implementation plan. Taking a collaborative approach that took into consideration the knowledge, constraints, and needs of each stakeholder resulted in a more realistic plan with sustainable outcomes that could quickly start being implemented.
